Data center backup generator permits with stated counts and ratings

6 data center projects in our Indiana and Georgia samples whose government records give the number and rating of backup generators. Records dated April 18 to October 18, 2026. A permit lists planned equipment; it is not a purchase order.

Lavender Fields Holdings data center expansion, 402 Royal Road (Google Michigan City)

LaPorte County, Indiana

Record
Air permit, Sep 25, 2026. in.gov
Applicant as named
Lavender Fields Holdings, LLC
Stage
Permit pending
Equipment stated
Draft modification Section A.2: 66 new diesel emergency generators GEN67 to GEN132 at 3,490 kWe (4,680 bhp) each, plus one ancillary generator HUB1 at 167.6 bhp, and 67 new belly tanks of 5,373 gallons each. Known inconsistency: the public notice says 67 critical emergency generators; HUB1 may account for the difference, but no document says so. Existing site: 66 critical emergency generators GEN1 to GEN66 at 2,750 kWe. The modification also proposes removing 2 existing generators and their belly tanks, without naming which. HVO is the secondary fuel; one closed loop air cooling system.
Next public date
Nov 17, 2026: IDEM virtual public hearing on the draft modification; the extended comment period ends Nov 23, 2026

Equipment stated
Draft permit Section A.2: 384 diesel critical emergency generators CEG1 to CEG384 at 2,750 kWe (4,043 bhp) each, each with SCR and cDPF. Known inconsistency: Section D.1 also describes 384 generators but lists their control systems as CE1 to CE234 (Section A.2 says CE1 to CE384), and the D.1.5 CO equation refers to CEG1 to CEG234. Also listed: 1 ancillary generator at 1,600 kWe for the water treatment system; 4 house generators HG1 to HG4 at 750 kWe; 384 generator fuel tanks CEG BT 1 to 384 (likely belly tanks) of 6,500 gallons each; 14 bulk tanks of 12,000 gallons each.
